David Ashford

David Ashford
David is an independent candidate standing in Douglas North.
He is currently one of the constituency's sitting MHKs, having first been elected in 2016, and is also the Cabinet Office Minister.
He has five children, and in his spare time enjoys walking, reading and listening to music.
He says housing pressures, strains on health and social care, rising living costs, and growing frustration with public service accessibility have led to his decision to seek another term.
David says: "The next five years will bring even bigger challenges, and I believe we need a strong House of Keys, a strong Government, and representatives who are prepared to face those challenges honestly.
"I know many people are tired of politicians turning up once every five years with easy slogans, vague promises and no explanation of how things will actually be delivered.
"I want to do things differently. This campaign will be about real policies, real choices and honest discussion about the future of our Island."
We asked each candidate to tell us what their priorities would be if elected.
David chose getting the basics right by delivering dependable core public services, securing better value for public money and ensuring clear accountability for delivery; increasing the availability of affordable and social housing, supporting first-time buyers and reforming the planning system; and building a stronger and more resilient economy.
