Independent candidate: Yes

Why this candidate wants to be a member of the House of Keys: The Isle of Man is facing severe challenges, resulting from both changing global attitudes towards tax avoidance and our own government’s lax management of its finances. With a public sector pension liability of £3 billion and Manx Utilities debts totalling £497 million, it is vital that we have MHKs who are financially astute and focused on the bottom line if we are to avoid becoming a failed state. My skills in synthesising ideas and promoting wide-ranging products and services, gained as a copywriter with leading advertising agencies including the Saatchi Group and J Walter Thompson, will prove very useful in presenting the Isle of Man’s message to the world. Finally, I wish to become an MHK because I believe I will find it stimulating and personally fulfilling.
