Laurence Vaughan-Williams
Laurence Vaughan-Williams is an independent candidate standing in the constituency of Rushen.
A barrister and advocate, he is also currently a Port St Mary Commissioner, having served on the local authority since 2017.
He has two children, as well as a cat called Wafra and a parrot called Daphne.
In his spare time, he enjoys attending Port St Mary Cabaret Party, theatre, music, literature, the arts, maintaining his classic Alvis car and Welsh rugby.
In a statement, he says his decision to stand is driven by a belief that many people across the Island feel their voices are no longer being heard.
Laurence says: "I will squeeze Government until the pips squeak to ensure the South is no longer treated as the poor relation."
We asked each candidate to tell us what their priorities would be if elected.
Laurence chose building a new Castle Rushen High School, prison/justice reform and legislation and regulation, and ensuring nobody has to sell their home to pay for care.
