Laurence Vaughan-Williams

Laurence Vaughan-Williams

Laurence Vaughan-Williams is an independent candidate standing in the constituency of Rushen.

An advocate, he is also currently a Port St Mary Commissioner, having served on the local authority since 2017.

In a statement, he says his decision to stand is driven by a belief that many people across the Island feel their voices are no longer being heard.

Laurence says some of his priorities will include:

  • Supporting practical and environmentally responsible green energy policies while opposing onshore and offshore windfarm developments.
  • Reforming aspects of the prison and justice system by addressing the causes of crime through education, and treatment for addiction.
  • Expanding dedicated treatment and recovery centres for those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
  • Making sure the development of a new school, swimming pool and sports hub at the Castle Rushen site actually happens this time.
  • Addressing the growing concern that younger generations are increasingly unable to enjoy the same opportunities to purchase an affordable home and standard of living as previous generations.
  • Reducing unnecessary regulation on small businesses and encouraging economic growth and enterprise across the Island.

We'll complete Laurence's profile when he returns his information to us.
