Pensions consultation starts next week

A three month consultation period begins on Monday on plans to overhaul public sector pensions in the Isle of Man.

The cost to government of the current system is rising by £38 million a year, around ten per cent, and Chief Minister Tony Brown says something must be done.

The civil service union Prospect recognises the need for some sort of action, but believes the proposed consolidation of the 15 or so current schemes into a single package could result in people paying more and getting less.
