Inflation up again

Inflation on the Island rose again last month – its second successive rise since reaching a three-year low in August.

According to the Treasury's Economic Affairs division, the Retail Prices Index rose to 3.1 per cent in October, up from 2.8 per cent in September.

Meanwhile the RPI annual rate excluding housing costs also went up last month to 2.5 per cent.

Lovers of herrings and spuds have been hit particularly hard by price rises over the last year: fish has gone up 25 percent, while the price of potatoes has jumped by more than 11 per cent.
