Claims time has come to change unjust system
An attempt will be made today to take a first step towards reforming the Isle of Man's abortion law (24 Jan).
Ramsey MHK Alex Allinson will seek leave to introduce a private member's bill, to update what is widely seen as a restrictive regime.
Only around 10 abortions are carried out here each year, because of the limited circumstances in which they're allowed.
It means more than 100 women travel to the UK annually for private terminations.
During the general election campaign, pro-choice group CALM pushed the issue up the political agenda - but have since been met with opposition from pro-life group HEAR.
Both campaigns have lobbied MHKs ahead of today's vote.
