New Eastern Civic Amenity Site opening next week

Development is on time and on budget

The new civic amenity site in Douglas is opening to the public next Thursday (29 June).

It's located at the Middle Park Industrial Estate, off Kewaigue Hill, and will be operating from 8am.

The site will be accessible throughout summer from 8am to 7pm (Monday to Saturday) and between 8am to 4pm on Sundays, bank holidays and during winter.

There will be no service at the current civic amenity site from 26 to 28 June but all other amenity sites around the Island will remain open.

Mayor Natalie Byron-Teare, who was part of the Eastern Civic Amenity Site joint committee, said: "The new site not only continues to maintain and further establishes innovative waste management infrastructure but is a facility which provides value for money, increased flexibility and convenience for residents.

"This is a sustainable development which is equipped to provide much in-demand services while maximising how much waste we can recycle.

"I have no doubt it will be used by the community for many years to come.

"To all those who have played their part in creating such a worthwhile project, which has been delivered both on time and on budget, is a credit to those involved and will be a development which provides improvements for the public and protects the Island’s environment."

The new facility cost £3million and the build began in August 2022 after the current site in Pulrose was deemed to be approaching maximum capacity.
