No slowdown in Island residents booking summer holidays says travel agent

And staycation bookings also seem buoyant despite cost-of-living pressures

There’s been no slowdown of people on the Isle of Man booking summer holidays.

That’s the view of one travel agent here who says he believes travel is ‘back to normal’ following Covid-19 and despite cost-of-living pressures.

It’s been claimed that UK holidaymakers are choosing to travel to Turkey and Egypt this year to take advantage of positive exchange rates.

Travel company On The Beach says its bookings for those destinations have more than doubled since before the pandemic.

And the Advantage Travel Partnership – which represents around 20 per cent of travel agents in the UK – also reported that bookings in July for travel in August have more than quadrupled.

Brian Kelly is from the Online Regional Travel Group which looks after customers on the Island, in Jersey and in Guernsey:

For those who can’t afford an off-Island summer break, or who simply wish to stay closer to home, the Island’s staycation market appears to have stayed buoyant post pandemic.

Derek Cain runs Glendown Farm in Port St Mary which offers camping and glamping options – he says bookings are good – despite the mixed summer weather:

One campsite which is preparing to close its doors for good in September is Silly Moos near Ramsey.

Fiona Brumby is getting ready to welcome Manx Grand Prix guests for the last time.

She told Manx Radio they’ve seen more cancellations than in previous years and whilst the number of Manx visitors seems to be well down, the number of visitors from England has been up.

Back to Brian then who says whilst residents may be looking to get off the Island there are plenty of people ready to travel in this direction for a Manx summer holiday:
