Proof not required for prescriptions - DHSC

Medicine cost taxpayer £18m last year

Islanders are able to receive prescriptions for free whether they can show proof of exemption or not, according to the Department of Health and Social Care.

There was considerable confusion last week over whether or not documents have to be provided by benefit claimants, in order to have the charges waived by pharmacists.

It's emerged almost £18 million was spent on NHS medication in 2016, prompting the DHSC to try recoup some of that money.
