History at Pre-TT Classic as two women podium in race one

(L-R) Angela Cragg and Shelley Pike - Manx Radio

The highlights from Saturday's racing session

RACE ONE

History was made on the Billown course on Saturday as two women finished on the podium in race one.

In the 250/350 Singles, Shelley Pike took second in the 350s and Angela Cragg was third In the 250 class.

Shelley spoke to Manx Radio Motorsport after the race:

Will Loder won the 350 race - his first victory on the Isle of man:

Andrew Guy finished third In the 350 class and the 250 class was won by Andy Hunt with Barry Davidson second.

RACE TWO

Meanwhile it was another maiden victory for one of the competitors in race two, the 1100 Classic.

Andy Hornby came first over the seven lap race, in what he said were mixed conditions on the course because of the weather.

He was thrilled with his first win on the Island:

Second was Laxey man Joe Yeardsley - who confirmed the conditions weren't great:

In third place was Richard Ford.

RACE THREE

There was a delayed start to race three - the Junior Superbikes -  because of some heavy rain showers.

Shortly after an EasyJet flight aborted its first landing attempt, riders gathered on the start grid on the Castletown by-pass, but several made their own minds up that the weather wasn't  good enough to proceed.

Officials agreed and Clerk of the Course Giles Olley sent the competitors back to the paddock.

There followed a delay  of around half an hour where riders were given the chance to change their tyres to suit conditions, and decide if they wanted to race.

Officials cut the number of laps from seven to five.

In the end it was deja vu at the top of the podium, with Rhys Hardisty repeating his win of this race - he also won it last year and back in 2019:

Don Gilbert was second and Chris Moore came third.

Manx rider Luke Blevins was the fastest newcomer home in this race - finishing in sixth position.

RACE FOUR

And there was disappointment for the sidecars, with their first race of the meeting cancelled because of the earlier delays.

Organisers decided there wasn't enough time to run the four lap race before the roads opened at 9pm.

Shortly after that call was made, the heavens opened once more.

Roads around the Billown Course will close for more racing today (Sunday 26 May) at 1pm, reopening no later than 6pm.
