Government Allowances

Government Allowances:

Most benefits are going up by either 5.7% or 6.7%, in line with either the UK or IOM CPI rate as of September 2023.

  • Maternity, adoption and paternity allowances are all going up 15% - maximum rates will rise from £210 to £241.50 a week. The maternity allowance standard rate will rise from £182.90 to £210.35. Meanwhile, maternity payment is going up 7.1% and will be a lump sum of £750.
  • Bereavement Support Payment up by 6.7%
  • Child Benefit - for the first or only child in a family it's going up 5.7%, for second and subsequent children there's a big jump of 60.3%. This means families with two children will get up to an extra £12.05 per week/£626.60 per year. Families with three children will get up to an extra £22.60 per week/£1,175.20 per year. It's thought around 3,000 families who have more than one dependent child will see their Child Benefit significantly increase.
  • Disability Living Allowance up by 5.7% generally but up by 6.7% for higher rate mobility component
  • Employed Person's Allowance, Income Support and income-based Job Seeker's Allowance will go up by 5.7%
  • Carer's Allowance will rise by 6.7%, with the weekly earnings limit also going up 6.7%
  • Incapacity Benefit will go up by 6.7%, with the permitted work higher weekly earnings limit also raising by 6.7%
  • Attendance Allowance is going up 5.7%
  • Job Seekers Allowance - Contribution based up by 9.8% from £61.05 for people under 25 and £77.00 for those over 25 to around £67.03 and £84.55 respectively
  • Nursing Care Contribution up by 6.7%
  • The Manx State Pension is rising by 8.5%, meaning an extra £18.83 each week/£979.16 more over a year (based on 52 weeks)
  • Additional pension (‘SERPS’) and Manx state pension protected amounts up by 6.7%
