How the Manx Picture Postcard and the famous Manx Cat promoted Manx Tourism for 70 years.

In 1894 the British Postal Authorities sanctioned the use of ‘Picture Postcards’ and the seaside postcard was born. The widespread fascination for the Manx Cat, and an already famous cat artist in Louis Wain, were the best publicity the Island could possibly have. Huge quantities of postcards were produced. Through postcards, photos and old brochures this exhibition showcases the Island’s attractions and captures the spirit of ‘Manxland’ over 70 years. In the early years the favourite attractions were the beautiful Douglas prom and Groudle Glen. In the Sixties it was Radio Caroline and a visit by the Rolling Stones. The Island was then the coolest place to be.

The exhibition also features two displays of the famous Jurby Mice, A Garden Party at the Grove and A Manx Wedding Reception at Milntown.
