Don Pasquale by Donizetti - Live Opera
Multiple dates from Friday, September 14th to Saturday, September 15th
For many years we have performed a live opera in September staged in the Erin Arts Centre. This year the choice is Don Pasquale which is a comic opera sung in English, last performed at the Erin Arts Centre in 2003.
The opera is directed by Stefan Janski, former Head of opera Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music who has directed previous operas for us. Scenery is usually built in August which is why we never have many events in that month. The singers come to the Island a week before the opera and spend the week putting the opera together. The main roles are sung by invited artistes and local singers fill the minor roles.
This year we welcome back singers who have appeared in previous EAC operas:
Neil Balfour will play the title role. He has appeared with Opera Holland Park, and toured the with Heritage Opera,
Fleur de Bray will play Norina. She recently completed a season starring at the National Theatre as Katherina Cavalieri in the sell-out production of Amadeus.
Elgan LlyrThomas will play Ernest. He will be performing with English National Opera in June and has performed with Scottish Opera and Opera Holland Park.
The cast is completed by David Cane, a recent graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music and local actor Mike Trout.
The Erin Arts Centre is the only venue on the Isle of Man to regularly perform live staged operas.
Price: £22, under 18s £2
