It's been recognised against 80 sites throughout the UK
Manx Care's received another accolade with the Anticoagulation Clinic being ranked among the UK's best.
A twice yearly report conducted by specialist software provider DAWN AC has benchmarked the Island against 80 sites throughout the UK that provide a similar service - many of which are large NHS foundations.
Anticoagulants are blood clot preventing medicines and patients who will benefit from them are referred to the clinic for treatment.
The principal drug that needs careful monitoring is Warfarin, which is a complex drug with a narrow therapeutic index, meaning it only works for short periods of time before it's out of range for a patient's clinical need.
If the level is too high there's a risk of bleeding. If it's too low there's a risk of clotting. It's therefore essential for patients to have access to regular clinics.
