Busy day of English skeet sees league rounds, cup titles and Island Games selection scores decided

A series of clay shooting competitions took place at Meary Veg, with four events held across the day, including two rounds of the Colin Bowen Memorial English Skeet League.

The opening 50 targets determined several individual class winners.

In A Class, R Bowen Matthews led the standings, while R Corlett secured victory in B Class and M Whitehead topped C Class.

Those same scores also counted towards two cup competitions. R Bowen Matthews won the Stan Cross Easter High Gun Cup, while B Kelly claimed the George Costain Handicap Cup after handicap adjustments were applied.

A second round of 50 targets followed, with Z Bellhouse and M Cross sharing top honours in A Class.

R Corlett again led B Class, while M Whitehead recorded another win in C Class.

The Colin Bowen Team Cup, contested over 100 targets, was won by the pairing of R Bowen Matthews and J Corkill. W Rand and J Faragher finished second, with P Kelly and Z Bellhouse in third.

Scores from the day also contributed towards selection for the 2027 Island Games. Z Bellhouse and M Cross recorded the highest qualifying scores, followed by R Corlett and R Bowen Matthews.

The next competition at the venue will be the second round of the RIELA Yachts Sporttrap League, with entries closing at 10am.
