Noble's Hospital adopts 'pioneering' approach to helping sick children

The 'Paediatric Early Warning Score' hopes to reduce the risk of manual errors and help coordinate care

A 'pioneering' new approach to tracking deterioration in the condition of sick children in hospital has been successfully adopted by Manx Care.

Noble's Hospital has implemented the national 'Paediatric Early Warning Score' in the hope of reducing the risk of manual errors and helping coordinating care.

The introduction of the digital early warning scores puts the Island ahead of most NHS Trusts in the UK.

Manx Care has been able to implement the system by utilising software already in use at the hospital.

Rebecca Erani, Chief Nursing Information Officer, says the successful implementation of the PEWS technology marks an incredible step forward for Manx Care and the Isle of Man.

She says the system will enhance patient safety and enable the use of one, standardised communication tool should any child need to go off-Island.
