AXA goes Green in aid of charity

AXA Isle of Man has raised £522 by taking part in the world’s biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, which was held at the Company’s offices in Walpole Avenue, Douglas, on Friday (September 26), included a staff baking competition, judged by Macmillan volunteers.

First prize was awarded to Vicki Burgess’s chocolate cake, second place to Deborah Dean’s cherry bakewell tart and third to Marie Hainge’s muffins. The cakes were then auctioned off amongst the rest of the staff.

AXA Isle of Man employees, who all wore something green for the day, also took part in a raffle to win 15 flat-screen computer monitors.

A competition to guess how many coffee beans were in a jar was won by Scott Maylin, whose prediction of 2150 was nearest to the total of 2146.

The Company staged the event to help Macmillan Cancer Support raise money to fund the appointment of a new GP facilitator, Dr Karen Sharpe. Her role is to keep all GPs in the Island informed about cancer treatment, including new initiatives and getting all referrals standardised.

Macmillan also funds posts in Merseyside for people in the Isle of Man who have to travel across, including those who need certain chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy for specific cancers.

Managing Director of AXA Isle of Man, Mike Foy, said: ‘All the staff had a fantastic day and we were delighted to be able to show our support for Macmillan Cancer Support, which is such a worthwhile charity.’
