City expert assesses UK and global recovery

Chief Investment Officer of Kleinwort Benson Mo Choukeir has made his first visit to the Isle of Man to meet staff and clients at the private bank's Douglas office.

Mr Choukeir, who also met Treasury officials during the day-long visit, outlined his views on global economic recovery, assessing current investment opportunities and risks.

His theme over two presentations (27 Nov) was 'Life After Quantitative easing' and his question, 'what happens when the music stops?'

Mr Choukier explained QE had achieved the aims of averting deflation and lowering borrowing costs for governments. But he said conditions were not yet right for a reduction of the process.

In an upbeat assessment he said there were encouraging signs of recovery in the UK at both consumer and corporate level.

As the Island's main trading partner, how would that play out for the Manx economy?
