Council looks for community event partners

There's an opportunity for Isle of Man firms to promote themselves at three high profile events in the capital this year, if they are willing to pay for the privilege.

Douglas Borough Council is looking for sponsors for a Party in the Park in July to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, and a fireworks display and the switching on ceremony for the Christmas lights, both in November.

Council leader David Christian says the local authority is responding to difficult times by developing partnerships with the private sector. He believes it's the way forward if big community events are to be staged, during what he describes as a 'grave economic downturn'.

Councillor Christian is inviting sponsorship proposals for the 2012 programme and says he is willing to consider 'alternative funding mechanisms'.
