Douglas firm decides against hydroponic sale

A Manx company has pulled out of a deal which would have seen a community group buy a hydroponic site in Scotland.

Coigach Community Development Company wanted to buy the former Achiltibuie Hydroponicum from Douglas-based Moulton Limited.

But at the weekend Moulton pulled out of the deal under the Scottish government's community buy-out scheme for the site in Wester Ross.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise would have funded the sale, along with a loan from Highland Opportunity Ltd.

Chairman of Coigach Community Development Company Iain Muir says he is disappointed as the land would have been redeveloped as workshops and affordable housing.

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil.
