Young talent saluted at JA event

A teenage musician has won a cheque for £500 after being crowned winner of the Island's Next Big Thing competition at the Gaiety Theatre.

Fourteen-year old Tabitha Templer wowed the judges and a packed audience in the final with her performance on the electric violin.

The talent contest for 10-18-year-olds is staged by local charity Junior Achievement, with sponsorship and prizes donated by a number of Island firms.

Eleven-year-old Roch Mirksi took second prize of £250 for his confident vocal performance, with 15-year-old Lois Mooney rounding off the top three.
