Career climb: the boy did good!
An Island facilities firm has promoted its former cleaner to the board - after he worked his way up the company ladder.
Ricardo Amaral, who's from Portugal, joined Strand Facilities Services in 2002, when its parent company Strand Group extended a recruitment drive abroad.
He was among 30 staff brought to the Island from the Basque Country and Portugal, joining the company as a cleaner.
He was swiftly promoted to team leader and over the next 14 years strode onto the become supervisor, senior supervisor and in 2011, operations manager.
Ricardo's currently responsible for 100 workers and day-to-day operations at the company, one of four under the Stand Group umbrella.
His loyalty has paid off, as he's now been appointed to the board
Ricardo has thanked everyone at the firm for helping him progress, from the cleaners to management, and says he's 'very proud' to reach the boardroom.
