Improvements to be made to operating systems
The Steam Packet Company has welcomed the opening of a new £140 million link road between Heysham and the M6.
The long-awaited route named The Bay Gateway cuts journey times for passenger and freight vehicles by avoiding city centre congestion in Lancaster.
Packet CEO Mark Woodward also welcomed a £10 million investment in Heysham port itself by its owner, Peel Ports.
It will see a major upgrade of a linkspan used by shipping company Seatruck Ferries, but there will also be improvements to IT and terminal operating systems.
Mr Woodward says while the project won't directly affect operations to and from the Isle of Man, it's a 'positive sign'.
He's urged port owners to maintain full access by regular dredging of the Heysham approach channel.
