Hopes bio med event will inject economic boost

 

A second Manx Bio Med conference to be hosted in Douglas next month aims to secure new jobs and investment in the Isle of Man.

Last year 100 delegates from specialist firms in the bio med arena attended the inaugural event.

Of those expressing interest in locating their research and development, data storage and marketing operations in the Island, six are understood to be seriously considering the move. 

The Island has also been promoted as a suitable base from which drug companies could conduct clinical trials, with local expertise in corporate service provision and data centre capability highlighted.

Efforts will continue at this year's conference, 11 & 12 December, to foster a new business cluster which could generate an influx of hi-tech professionals and see new jobs created - together providing a boost to the Manx economy.

Bio med Inward Investment manager at the Department of Economic Development Courtenay Heading says there will be a renewed focus on persuading firms to relocate here:
