Innovation key to 'sustainable' hospice

Challenge to serve aging population

The CEO of Isle of Man Hospice has made a clarion call for fresh thinking on how the institution can serve an increasingly aging population.

Anne Mills says 'bold steps' are needed to meet the challenge, and ensure the facility's long-term sustainability.

These include proposals to make the hospice 'research-active', so that it becomes a recognised centre of excellence in end of life care. 

Hospice's approach to offering treatment and therapies is also under scrutiny. Reaching larger number of patients in the community, using techniques and devices developed by the BioMed sector, is now firmly on the agenda.

Anne Mills outlined current challenges to a meeting of the Manx BioMed cluster - speaking directly to some of the innovative firms  we heard about on this programme yesterday.
