Survey highlights top 'disruptive' technologies

KPMG research points to threats and challenges

KPMG International has ranked the top emerging technologies that are equal to or ahead of Cloud and mobile, in a recent survey.

More than 800 business leaders across the world took part in the 2015 Global Technology survey, which ranked several so-called disruptive technologies, enabled by Cloud or mobile, high for the next three years.

Disruptive technologies are those with capability to change the way we use current technology, with the introduction of new systems and formats.

Tripling last year's finding, 41 per cent of US technology business leaders said it is likely or very likely that digital currencies will disrupt the banking and payments sector in the next three years.

Globally, 42 per cent said so with that figure 72 percent in China and 27 per cent in EMA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) agreed.

Russell Kelly of KPMG Isle of Man says the findings are of particular importance to the Island, in regard to digital currencies and the biotech sector.

He says these two areas have gone through rapid growth here, with a number of new businesses making enquiries about the Island through the firm.

Mr Kelly predicts the growth to continue into the future, due to the results of this global survey.
