MEA mission to Scotland delayed

A team of engineers from the Manx Electricity Authority is ready to head to Scotland to help restore power to around 17,000 homes hit by severe weather.

However, their departure was delayed by the cancellation of the Ben-my-Chree's sailing to Heysham this evening (Wednesday).

A group of overhead linesmen and their vehicles will now travel on the next available sailing, unless they are stood down by Scottish Power, which has made the call for assistance.

The Manx Electricity Authority responded to similar calls for help in 2007 and last year, and the MEA asked colleagues in the UK to help repair power lines after severe storms hit the Isle of Man in January 2005.
