Minister on minimum wage 'misconceptions'

Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney says workers in the Isle of Man with no skills or qualifications aren't as badly off as some people would have you believe.

He fielded a question in the House of Keys from North Douglas MHK Bill Henderson, about firms which advertise unskilled jobs at the minimum wage, to deter local applicants.

Mr Cretney said quoting the minimum wage in the specification didn't mean only people from off-Island would apply for the positions.

And he told the House there were one or two other misconceptions about such jobs:
