
The next big step in mobile broadband has been undergoing tests in the Isle of Man.
Manx Telecom and Alcatel Lucent have been trialling a 4G network, also known as Long Term Evolution, with special equipment in Douglas and at the Isle of Man Business Park.
Eventually, 4G phones such as Apple's most recent iPhone will be able to use the internet faster than most people's home ADSL lines.
Alcatel-Lucent analyst Greg Jefford says the trials have been all about showing future users what can be achieved:
