New launch cheered by ManSat

Manx connections for Japan sat venture

As all eyes were to the skies for Briton Tim Peake's journey into space, Manx involvement in space commerce took another step forward (15 Dec) with the succesful launch of a satellite from Japan.

The Telstar 12 Vantage Satellite will bring in licence fees for the Manx government, as it uses frequencies filed by ManSat via the island's oldest established operator, Telesat IOM Limited.

ManSat carries out filings under a contract with the Isle of Man  Communications Commission.

Chairman of ManSat Chris Stott said the launch reinforces the Island's leading position as a centre for commercial satellite filing worldwide, behind only the US and the UK.
