Nordic Council tax agreements all in place

Taxation agreements between the Isle of Man and all seven members of the Nordic Council have now been ratified, with the last two coming into force before the end of the year.

The ones with Greenland, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Norway and Denmark became operational between April and September this year. Those with Sweden and Iceland will come in on December 27th and 28th respectively.

The Manx Treasury says it means that, by the end of 2008, a total of 28 taxation and economic co-operation agreements will be in force between the government of the Isle of Man and the Nordic Council countries.

Announcing the agreements in March, Treasury Minister Allan Bell said historically the Nordic countries - especially Norway, Finland and Sweden - had been fierce opponents of offshore jurisdictions.

However, that stance had softened, and the Nordic Council approached the Isle of Man to reach a settlement.
