Packet helps carnival steer steady course

Ferry company backs best float

The Steam Packet Company will be a key sponsor of Douglas Carnival this summer, putting up £1000 prize money for the Best Float competition.

The company sponsored the category in the revived event's first year in 2014.

Chief executive Mark Woodward described it as a great all-island community event which the firm was delighted to continue to support.

Three cash prizes for the best-dressed float are up for grabs, courtesy of the Packet: £500 for first place, £300 for the runner-up and for the third placed entry, £200.

The carnival on 18 July is organised by Douglas Borough Council and the Douglas Development Partnership.

Town centre manager Michelle O'Malley said: "To have support from one of their Island's leading companies lends an added seal of approval to the carnival, an event which is brining together the business, retail and third sector communities to ensure this year's Douglas carnival will be bigger and better ... and hopefully drier."
