Shopping chain Dealz says it can't confirm it's looking at moving into Strand Street in Douglas.
The stores, which are part of the Poundland group of companies, launched in Ireland in September and are rumoured to be considering premises in the town centre.
A statement from Poundland's retail operations director Tim McDonnell says his company doesn't want to raise hopes for a new store before plans are finalised.
He says it would be inappropriate to disclose further information at this stage, although he admits the chain is looking for new premises.
