A group of sixth form students from an Island high school has won a place in the penultimate stage of a prestigious international competition for budding space entrepreneurs.
The five-member team from QE 11 in Peel is preparing its entry for the semi-final of the Spirit of Innovation Challenge run by the Conrad Foundation in the USA.
The body was founded by the late Apollo astronaut Peter Conrad and his wife Nancy, with support from some of the world's best-known brand names.
For the fourth year running Manx company ManSat has sponsored teams form local high schools to take part.
Team Victrix from QE11 has entered in the aviation and aeronautics category, their product a modification of the aeroplane wheel designed to save rubber and reduce the need for tyre changes.
If the team is successful at the semi-final stage, they will build their device at the finals - to be held in early April at the NASA space centre in Houston Texas, the home of mission control.
ManSat CEO Chris Stott said: ‘The Spirit of Innovation is a fantastic initiative that challenges the students with real world business experience which is why we're delighted to be involved with it again in support of our students here at home on the Isle of Man.’
