Caller trying to clone card details
There's a new cold-calling scam doing the rounds in the Isle of Man, say police, which has resulted in locals losing money.
Someone claiming to be from Manx Telecom calls and tells you there is an error message on your internet router, and that due to the poor internet service you have been experiencing, you are eligible for a refund.
You're asked to use your card reader and enter your PIN number on your computer; however, prior to doing this, you will be asked to allow the caller to remotely access your computer to fix your internet speed.
At this moment, the caller will clone your card details.
The police say they have been made aware of several scams, which show off-Island scammers are doing research and using Manx company names and looking at Manx buy-and-sell adverts and sites.
