Spanish corruption investigation

Spanish investigators are looking into Manx links with an alleged corruption scandal which has engulfed the country’s main opposition party.

Businessman Francisco Correa and Pablo Crespo, an official in the conservative Popular Party, are said to have been involved in a kickbacks-for-contracts scheme.

Between them, they’re said to have put 21 million euros into Swiss bank accounts and a financial advisor in Switzerland has told a judge he set up a Manx-based company called Rustfield.

One of the property company’s deals involved the Popular Party’s treasurer who resigned last July over the scandal.

Both Correa and Crespo have been arrested on suspicion of corruption.
