Stamp issue brings Cav to life!

A unique set of stamps portraying Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish to be issued by Isle of Man Post Office later this month, will be one of the first in the world to offer an augmented reality feature.

The seven stamp collection includes images of Mark winning a gold medal for the Island in the 2006 Commonwealth Games scratch race, and wearing the green jersey at the end of the 2011 Tour de France.

The £1.05 stamp will display a video of Cav winning his world road race title in Copenhagen last year, when a smart phone or other mobile device is scanned over it.

The Manx Missile says he's honoured to feature in the stamp collection and delighted with the images selected.

The stamps were designed by Ruth Sutherland and the presentation pack text written by Isle of Man cycling journalist Richard Allen.

Chairman of the Post Office Geoff Corkish MHK said he's confident the first edition stamp issue will appeal to cycling fans and collecters alike.

He added that the issue is one example of the pride the Island has for Mark's achievements, which have helped promote the Isle of Man around the world.

The stamp issue goes on sale on 19 June.
