Stamps salute record breaking mission

Issue radiates clean tech project success

A world first for renewable energy which saw a manned aircraft fly around the world powered only by the Sun, has been saluted by Isle of Man Post Office.

The company supported the Solar Impulse mission through the purchase of a solar cell, and has now issued a collectors miniature sheet to celebrate the project.

Solar Impusle 2 completed the longest ever solo endurance flight when it touched down in Abu Dhabi in July more than a year after taking off.

The expedition aimed to show that zero-emissions technology can reduce energy consumption, while demonstrating the potential of renewable energy.

Alain Pirlot from the Solar Impulse team said: "We .. are simply grateful for the truly wonderful production of the Solar Impulse miniature sheet celebrating the achievement of the Solar Impulse Around the World. We do warmly thank the Isle of Man Post Office for their support and the beautiful outcome."

Earlier this year the Post Office released a set of stamps celebrating the evolution of aerospace technology over the past 150 years.
