The Steam Packet says the latest problems with volcanic ash led to it stepping up services for passengers who found themselves unable to fly home to the Isle of Man.
On Wednesday, the company decided to put the larger fastcraft Manannan on Liverpool duties, in place of Snaefell.
Passenger numbers for sailings increased steadily over the course of the day, and chief executive Mark Woodward says Manannan brought increased capacity.
He says he's pleased Manannan was able to step in again to provide a high capacity service to travellers.
