Free seminar on danger of silica dust
Construction sector firms in the Island are invited to a free safety seminar today focusing on the dangers of breathing silica dust (6 Oct).
Experts from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health will offer practical advice on how dust from building materials at work sites, can be controlled.
Silica occurs naturally in stone, mortar and tiles, but is hazardous when released - and held to blame for 800 lung cancer deaths in Britain each year.
Tonight's talk will raise awareness of occupational cancers, and urge employers to put measures in place to reduce exposure.
