Tesco raises over £12K for charity in last financial year

The Douglas branch of supermarket chain Tesco is celebrating after raising over £12,000 for charitable community projects on the island in the last financial year.

The Douglas branch, which opened 15 years ago, has supported a number of community focussed initiatives over the past 12 months. This has included a Sunday lunch for older people, donations from in-store bag-packing events and a number of charitable bucket collections with organisations such as the Manx Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals and the Onchan Live At Home Scheme.

The largest single donation was raised through a 24-hour sponsored Relay for Life walk on the island, with Tesco Douglas collecting £5,000 for Cancer Research.

Tesco Douglas Store Manager Steven Forbes says it's been another great year working with the local community, helping fund-raising initiatives that benefit a host of causes on the island.
