Whirlpool issues washing machine recall

Safety concerns over 21 Hotpoint and Indesit models

A number of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines are being recalled due to safety concerns.

The Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading has confirmed it’s the third announcement made by owner Whirlpool in recent months where 66 models had faults with a door-locking system.

Whirlpool is currently reviewing all Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines sold between 2014 and 2018, and owners will be notified.

The company has also set up a model checker online which lists the recall numbers of the 21 models affected.

Anyone owning any of the machines listed is urged to stop using them immediately, unplug and contact Whirlpool on 08003161442.

Meanwhile, owners of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines since October 2014 will need to enter the model and serial number of their appliance – found inside the door or on the back – to see if it is one of those affected.

Should this be the case, Whirlpool will issue a free replacement.
