Young at heart get ServiceTech boost

Snowboarding and skateboarding are just two of the many new activities available to clients of Age Concern Isle of Man’s day care centre at Reayrt Ny Baie in Douglas, thanks to the generosity of ServiceTech.

Committed to the concept of ‘the paperless office’, the IT services provider has switched from posting to emailing Christmas greetings, using the money saved in postage to benefit an Isle of Man-based charity.

For Christmas 2009, the decision was made to purchase two Wii Fit Plus systems valued at around £500 for Age Concern as the technology combines fitness and fun and provides low-impact exercise opportunities not only for the young but also for the young at heart.

Age Concern Isle of Man chief executive, Penny Creighton, said: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as recipients of ServiceTech’s generosity. Many of our clients have already entered the “brave new world” of digital technology at our Lifelong Learning computer centres, so to have been presented with not one but two Wii Fit Plus systems will give a wonderful boost to our drive to create an age-friendly society where every older person counts.’
