Zurich staff dig deep for community project

Archallagan facilities upgraded

Staff at Island finance firm Zurich International have completed a project to help develop a major new outdoor family attraction.

More than 140 employees of the Douglas life company have restored, built and upgraded a range of facilities at Archallagan plantation.

Within one week they uncovered an overgrown pond, created a lakeside nature reserve, built an 85 metre boardwalk and upgraded the plantation's main path.

A picnic area and children's play area have also been added, along with education boards displaying information about rare animals and plants.

The project to develop the plantation into a community forest is led by End2end Legacy, set up by organisers of the End2End mountain bike race, with help from local firms and volunteer groups.

Zurich's Communications manager Merita Taylor said employees are committed to supporting projects that provide long-lasting benefit to children and young people on the Island.
