£11 million Douglas deep-water berth tabled

Proposal included in Harbours Strategy

Proposals for a 240-metre-long deep-water berth costing £11 million at Victoria Pier in Douglas have been tabled by government.

The plans are included in the Department of Infrastructure's newly-released Harbours Strategy

It comes after a review of the capital's harbour was undertaken by marine engineers, who examined the feasibility of commercial activity in the area.

Growth in annual passengers numbers could be in the tens of thousands should creation of the berth go ahead, according to the Department for Enterprise.

The strategy outlines a three-year order of works for Douglas harbour, set out for projects in seven different areas, with a total cost of £80.37 million.

It can be viewed in full online via the government's website, https://www.gov.im/.
