System relaxed to support the economy
Temporary work permits are to be extended by six months.
The Department for Enterprise has relaxed the system in a bid to support the economy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Anyone in employment from 28 February onwards will automatically receive the extension, and can seek alternative work without the employer needing to contact government.
This rule also applies to non-residents who wouldn't normally require a permit, such as teachers and doctors.
The scheme will benefit anyone on a permit whose work has been interrupted by lockdown measures, and those whose permits were to expire shortly.
