70% of care home failings yet to be fixed

Inspectors issue 540 requirements during 2019-20 period

More than 70% of the failings identified in care homes on the Isle of Man in the 2019-20 period are yet to be fixed.

Inspections found 540 requirements where facilities were not in full compliance with the minimum standards at the 52 adult care homes on the Island.

Follow-up visits have since confirmed 154 requirements have been rectified, with work on the majority of the remaining issues delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

There were also 10 improvement notices issued to homes which required urgent work or have had requirements carried forward to a third inspection.

Two of these notices have since been fully lifted, but work is ongoing in relation to the other eight.

In the 2020-21 period, there were 398 requirements issued and 28 recommendations, which will be checked again during the next inspections.
