'A British Isles first' hospital tech launched in Ramsey

EarlySense monitoring system aims to help nurses

New technology meaning patients will be seen faster and more efficiently in hospital, has been introduced in Ramsey.

EarlySense was launched at the Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital this morning (12 April).

The League of Friends of Ramsey Cottage Hospital raised more than quarter of a million pounds over several years to fund it.

The technology uses contactless sensors to monitor the patient's heart rate, respiratory rate and movement, constantly providing updates to the nursing staff.

It tells nurses when patients need repositioning to prevent them from developing pressure sores, and alerts staff if a patient at risk of a fall gets out of bed.

MHKs and dignitaries attended demonstration of technology

The system cost of £268,000 from Vannin Healthcare, after being developed in the Netherlands and Ramsey.

Chief Minister Howard Quayle and Health Minister David Ashford attended the facility this morning to officially present staff with the equipment.

Leonard Singer from the League of Friends, who made a speech at the launch, says it's game changing technology: (play audio)
