A number of hair and beauty salons will not open

Many take to social media calling for a delay

Social media has lit up this evening with many of the Island's hair and beauty salons posting on Facebook that they will not re-open on the 1 June as the Isle of Man Government announced they were able to.

In a statement, it says the news has been greeted with "enthusiasm and excitement" by some in the sector but a number are taking a more cautious approach.

They say going from no contact to full and very close contact with a large number of clients each week doesn't fit with government social distancing guidelines.

These salons have set target dates of 15 June or 22 June to re-open depending on their ability to source PPE.

There is also concern about a lack of guidelines from government as well as sourcing new products and redesigning how the business will run to comply with social distancing requirements.

The collective say they are making this stance to protect clients as well as themselves.
