A pint and a play as pub theatre arrives

Events planned for next month

A Douglas town centre pub will be pressed into action as a stage later this year - to host a theatrical 'pop up' performance.

Organisers say the Rovers Return will provide the perfect backdrop for a play about the 1840's slave trade, which is set in a Bristol inn.

The event's part of TheatreFest 16 - a showcase for upcoming writers and performers in the Island.

The festival is supported by the isle of Man Arts Council.

Morning Star by Stephen Harper won last year's TheatreFest play writing competition - and is being performed for the first time.

Three new productions will be staged between 23 and 25 September under the slogan 'New Work, New Places, New People'.

Co director of Stage Door Entertainment Christine Sutcliffe says Douglas is ready for a dose of pub theatre:
